  Meaning escalator (2009)

Meaning Escalator is a short film which uses the unedited audio track from a film of contemporary American magician Chris Angel, performing a trick in which he seemingly climbs through a plate glass window in front of a live audience.  The found audio component has been overlaid with a series of found still images to form a narrative sequence.  The images, about 30 in total, range from an engraving from C.1690, to a detail of a front cover of an Agatha Christie novel from 1959.  All the images refer in some way to glass either illustrated, photographed, or referenced through text.

The film is an attempt to expose certain key preconceptions relating to this material, through the use of ‘found evidence’.  The work is constructed only using found / pre-existing material, both the audio content and still images.
